Zealand Tattoo – Christchurch – FAQ’s

I Live Overseas – Do You Create Design / Artwork Only?

Yes. Sometimes people living overseas want a design drwan only, that they can then take to their local tattoo artist. We can do this and will price accordingly for design only. We require payment for this service before we send artwork out in order to protect our artwork time and intellectual property. Contact us at zealandarts@clear.net.nz for further information on this service.

I Have A Tattoo That I Don’t Like And Want To Change – What Can I Do?

In most cases we can work with you to design a fantastic looking new tattoo that will cover up your existing tattoo. In some cases where there are large blocks of black ink this can be more difficult, but in most cases we can work an existing tattoo into a new design. If you live locally, come into our studio and show us the existing tattoo and we can give you some advice. If you are not local then take some photos of your existing tattoo and email it through to us at zealandarts@clear.net.nz

Ann-Marie’s Cover-Up Tattoo at Zealand Tattoo

Ann-Marie is a regular client of Zealand Tattoo. She has had a couple of pieces done by Zane in the past, all of which have healed perfectly and she is extremely happy with.

When visiting her Uncle out of town he offered to pay for her to have a tattoo done as a Birthday gift, at a different studio local to him. The design was an ornamental one around her ankle with a slight ‘regal’ feel to it. The ink however, was not ‘put to skin’ to a good standard and, when Ann-Marie went surfing the next day (which is unadvisable itself) the ink ‘fell out’. When the ink fell out it also became clear that the tattooists had permanently ‘scarred’ the skin beneath.

So Ann-Marie, very sensibly, on her return to Christchurch came in to see us and asked her regular tattooist Zane to create a design for her following a similar ‘regal’ ornamental theme that would cover-up the ‘botched’ job as well as hide the scarring.

A week later Zane completed the tattoo design which Ann-Marie loved. The tattoo process itself took an hour and a half (slightly longer than it would have done should there not have been scar tissue). The tattoo healed perfectly, as they always do when performed by Zealand Tattoo, and Ann Maire loves it. There is also no sign of the scar tissue beneath.

Below are the images of how the tattoo design progressed…

In the first image you can see the ‘remnants’ of the first tattoo in black. The red and blue ink is the new design being drawn on to the skin by Zane.

The second image is the finished tattoo design.

Zealand Tattoo – Christchurch – FAQ’s

Should I Get A Colourful Tattoo Or Black and Grey?

Tattoos often have more than one colour in them. Often our artists will use grey and white inks to add depth and prominence to a black tattoo. Full colour tattoos are also popular and can include any range of colours. Getting colour in your tattoo really comes back to the tattoo design that you choose. Because we have years of experience in tattooing we can help you decide whether or not you should add colour to your tattoo and if so what colours could look best. Often people will come in with a concept that already has colour in it. In this case we will ensure that the full colour piece comes out realistic and with correct colouring. An art consultation with one of our artists’ can often help you decide on colour schemes. Just drop in to the studio or call us on 03 962 6565 to organise a consultation.
